How We Got There

We drove from Uxmal along Highway 261to the marked turn-off just before the military checkpoint, past the ruins at Kabáh, Sayil, Xlapak, and Labná.

Where We Stayed

We established a base at the Lodge at Uxmal, an excellent hotel.

About the Site

These caves were home to ancient Maya and a haven during the War of the Castes (1847-1901).  It contains wall carvings, paintings, and other artifacts, but the caves them selves are spectacular.  This site is highly recommended since the tours are very informative, the caves have plenty of cool air, and the walk through is pleasant.

Hours

The site is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is 5 pesos. There is a small restaurant at the cave exit, and tours are given in different languages.
