How We GotThere

We drove down from Palenque (about a 3 hour drive over windy mountain roads), past Misol Ha and Aqua Azul along Highway 186 to Ocosingo, and stayed at the Rancho Esmeralda, a ten minute walk from the site.

About the Site

The site is about 14 km east of the town of Ocosingo in the beautiful Ocosingo Valley.  It was independent of Palenque and Yaxchilán and was most active in the years 500 A.D. to 800 A.D. It boasts the tallest pyramid in the Yucatán, and from its apex at 80 meters (about 245 feet), you get breathtaking views of the entire Ocosingo Valley.   Emphasis has been placed on making the site more accessible and the construction of a new museum to house artifacts found there.
