Malinalco Archaeological Site

How We Got There

We stayed in Toluca which is about 45 minutes outside of Mexico City on Highway 15.  The site is about an hour from Toluca along the two lane Highway 55 towards Tenancingo, and a turnoff before the city along a marked small road past San Simon.

About the Site

This site was built around 1510 as a defensive post, and is very unusual inasmuch it is not constructed from individual stones, but carved into the mountainside.  From the parking lot you have to climb more than 400 steps to get to the site.
