How We Got There

We drove from Mérida down Highway 180 (40 miles) to the site which is near the intersection of Highway 188 and 184.

Where We Stayed

We established a base in Mérida at the Grand Hotel in the center of town.  This is an old ornate hotel with free parking a few blocks away.

About the Site

This is a very early site which could date as far back as 300 B.C.  It is still under active excavation, but has been seriously looted.   It lasted until around 1000 A.D.  The Tzat Tun Tzat building contains a labyrinth of tunnels, passageways and stairs.  It may be explored.   Although the windows are critically placed so you don't need a flashlight to navigate the maze, bring one along anyway.

Hours

The site is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is free. Entry is free on Sundays.
