The Alarm

They say 'No Man Is an Island,' but for those of us who come a bit close, this song is written about us. "The Rock"

The Alarm was considered another "U2-MeToo" band when they first hit American shores, even though their style was pretty different. But the band stuck around for years because, at the heart of it, they still had something to say. Here they speak to people like me who have had no choice but to become self-sufficient because we don't fit in to the crowd well. Most such people, as the song says, are just asking for a tiny bit of understanding -- but often receive nothing but insults in return.

"The Rock" by The Alarm

I'm a man who bites hard on the bullet of silence,
If only you could feel the pain I hide.
Know me like I know you.

Still water running deep in the cavern of my soul,
So many roads lead nowhere.
Know me like I know you.

Like a rock, waves crash over me.
Standing silent, waiting to be...
Set free!

The rock, the rock, the rock
Will never let you down.
The rock will never fall
Or tumble to the ground.

[Like a rock!]

I've been accused of being many things,
None of them ever hit the mark.
Know me like I know you.

Like a rock, waves crash over me...

Standing silent, waiting to be...
Set free!

The rock, the rock, the rock
Will never let you down.
The rock will never fall
Or tumble to the ground.

The rock, the rock, the rock
Will never let you down.
The rock will never fall
Nor tumble to the ground.

[Like a rock!]
