SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Diet used for overweight patients to lose weight rapidly before surgery. FAT BURNING SOUP 6 large green onions 2 green peppers 1 or 2 cans tomatoes 1 bunch of celery 1 large head of cabbage 1 box Lipton onion soup mix 1 bunch parsley Season with salt, pepper, curry powder, boullion, hot sauce. Rinse and cut vegetables in small to medium pieces, place in large pot and cover with water. Boil fast for ten minutes. Reduce to a simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. Eat this soup anytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want. This soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more weight you will lose. Fill a container in the morning if you are away during the day. (If eaten alone for indefinite periods, this soup would induce malnutrition!) DIET INSTRUCTIONS This diet is a fast fat-burning process. You will burn more calories than you take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give a feeling of well-being. If you do not cheat, you will feel more energy than before after day three. This seven day eating plan can be used as often as you like. However, if at the end of a seven-day cycle, you have lost more than 15 pounds, stay off the diet for two full days before resuming. Also, due to the removal of fat, this diet DOES NOT lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time. Go off the diet for at least 24 hours before any intake of alcohol. DAY ONE Eat all fruits except fruits with high sugar content such as bannanas, berries, and grapes. Suggestions include cantaloupe and watermelon (lower in calories than most fruits), also pears, apples, kiwi, honeydew. Eat ONLY the soup and fruits. For drinks: unsweetened tea, cranberry juice, water. DAY TWO Eat all raw vegetables except dry beans, peas, and corn. Fresh or canned spinach, broccoli, brussels sprouts, artichokes, asparagus. Eat along with the soup. At dinner time, have a big baked potato and butter on this day only! Do not eat any fruits. DAY THREE Eat all the soup, fruits, and green leafy vegetables you want. Suggestions as above. Do not eat a baked potato. If you have eaten and above AND NOT CHEATED, you should have lost 5 to 7 pounds. After being on the diet for several days, you will find your bowel movements have changed. Eat a cup of bran or fiber. DAY FOUR Bananas and skim milk. Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as many glasses of milk as you can today, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, as is the milk. On this particular day your body will need the potassium, carbohydrates, calcium, and proteins to lessen your craving for sweets. DAY FIVE Beef and tomatoes. Have 10-20 ounces of beef and as many of 6 fresh tomatoes today. Try to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash away the uric acid in your body. Eat the soup at least once this day. DAY SIX Beef and veggies. Eat to your hearts' content of beef and veggies. You can even have 2 or 3 steaks if you like, with green leafy veggies as suggested above. Be sure to eat the soup at least once this day. DAY SEVEN Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice, and veggies. Again, stuff yourself. Be sure to have the soup at least once today. Everyone's digestive system is different, so the diet will affect everybody differently. At the end of the seventh day, if you have not cheated on the above diet, you will have lost 10 to 17 pounds. If you lost more than 15 pounds, stay off the diet for at least 2 days before resuming it. Eat the fat burning soup anytime you feel hungry. Any prescribed medications will not hurt you on this diet. You can substitute broiled fish for the beef on only one of the beef days (you need the high protein in the beef on the other days... ) You can eat broiled or baked chicken instead of meat (but absolutely no skin on the chicken). FORBIDDEN Do not eat bread or fried foods. Do not drink alcohol, or carbonated drinks (even diet drinks). Stick with water, unsweetened tea, black coffee, unsweetened fruit juice, cranberry juice, and skim milk.
