Garlic
French Toast (savory breakfast)
Ingredients -- Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian
If you're a garlic lover,
try this recipe with three different sources of
garlic. For keto, you'll need to find a good firm
keto bread.
- Oven-roast about 15 fresh garlic cloves in
olive oil in a ramekin. Allow to cool completely, or mix
with some cold butter to cool it.
- Mince or crush about 8 to 10 fresh garlic
cloves. Sprinkle with salt, then scrape the mixture with
the edge of a knife, across a cutting board, several times
until it starts to soften. Alternative:
use minced garlic paste from a tube.
- 2 Tbsp+ dried Garlic powder
- 2 Tbsp dried Onion powder
- 1 Tbsp dried Oregano
- 1 Tbsp "Dan-O's Original" Seasoning
- 1+ cup Heavy Cream
- 2 Eggs, plus 1 Egg Yolk
- Half stick melted butter
- Salt to taste
In a blender, blend the prepared types of garlic
and the spices, plus eggs and cream, a little extra vigorously
in order to "whip" the cream. As it is blending, drizzle
the melted butter into the blender slowly instead of all at
once -- so that it is added smoothly.
Set the mixture aside ~ 30 minutes to a few hours, in order to
"marinate" the garlic flavor into the cream.
From there, follow regular French Toast procedure. I
recommend toasting your dry bread in a toaster before
beginning. Dredge each slice of bread in the cream and
egg mixture, then transfer it to a hot nonstick pan and cook
briefly, checking the underside for when the toast/egg starts
to brown. Then flip and brown the other side.
Should only take a couple of minutes per slice.
Recommend garnishing the slices with a drizzle of honey when
serving. But this is often not even necessary because
the toast stays moist and juicy.
